Niagara Falls was chosen by Sun Media readers as the best overall tourist attraction in Canada
We polled Sun Media readers across the country, asking them to chose the top tourist attractions in each Canadian province and territory. After the results of provincial voting were revealed, we asked our readers to vote on the provincial winners to determine the ultimate, number one tourist attraction across the entire country.
After nearly 5,000 votes, we can now reveal the top tourist attraction in Canada, as chosen by Sun Media readers, to be Ontario’s Niagara Falls, with 44.4% of votes!
Below are the full results:
1. Niagara Falls was chosen by Sun Media readers as both the top tourist attraction in Ontario and the best overall tourist attraction in Canada, with 73.48% and 44.4% of votes respectively.
2. Banff National Park is the second best attraction in Canada, according to 24.36% of Sun Media readers who voted in our poll. It was named the best attraction in Alberta by 55.45% of voters.
3. The Rocky Mountains were chosen as the top tourist attraction in British Columbia by 51.8% of voters and finished third in the race to name Canada’s top overall attraction, with 10.85% of votes.
4. Historic Old Quebec City receive 5.96% of votes in the race to name Canada’s top tourist attraction. It was previously named by Sun Media readers as the best attraction in Quebec with 81.8% of votes.
5. Nova Scotia’s Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse was chosen by 49.17% of voters as the top attraction in the Atlantic province and by 3.22% of voters as the best attraction in Canada.
6. With 3.06% of votes, the Bay of Fundy finished sixth in our poll to find the best tourist attraction in Canada. It was named as the top attraction in New Brunswick by 74.27% of Sun Media readers.
7. St. John’s Signal Hill finishes in seventh with 2.73% of Sun Media reader votes. The landmark was chosen by 36.21% of voters as the top attraction in Newfoundland and Labrador.
8. Polar bear watching in Churchill received 1.75% of reader votes in the race to name Canada’s best attraction. The activity previously received 56.96% of reader votes to be named the best tourist attraction in Manitoba.
9. The Northern Lights, a.k.a. Aurora Borealis, was voted as the top attraction in the Northwest Territories with 52.04% of votes, but only placed ninth on the overall list of top Canadian attractions with 1.49% of votes.
10. Anne’s home of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island was chosen by 1.18% of Sun Media readers as the best attraction in all of Canada. The isle’s Green Gables Historic Site was named the top tourist attraction in P.E.I. with 72.49% of your votes.
11. Just 0.39% of Sun Media readers chose Baffin Island as the top tourist attraction in Canada. Baffin Island was previously named the top tourist attraction in Nunavut by 47.56% of voters.
12. The Klondike National Historic Site was voted as the top attraction in the Yukon by 44.29%, but finished twelfth in the voting for Canada’s top overall attraction with 0.33% of votes.
13. With 0.27% of Sun Media reader votes, Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Sand Dunes finished last in our poll to find the best tourist attraction in all of Canada. The Sand Dunes were previously chosen by readers as the top attraction in Saskatchewan, with 41.47% in our top provincial attractions poll.
